Introducing Bristles

In the middle of March a surprise package from Bill Fivaz arrived at my front door. Being the O.H.N.S. Archivist, I was very excited to see that the content was basically the first 151 QD forms that had been missing from the archive files. Upon examining and arranging the new paper work and photos I came across a carving that looked quite familiar. Earlier in the year, February 15, 2012 to be exact, I had won a coin in an independent mixed item auction for the price of $130. Realizing that my new conquest was a match to one owed by our Editor Ralph Winter, the hunt was now on. Ralph had recently obtained his at auction for the price of $248.50; said coin is mounted in a fob.

Having the third match from the just received QDs made it mandatory to have a newly nicknamed artist. Ralph and I decided on the name "Bristles" coined by Marc Banks. This was chosen after a name suggestion E-mail was sent out to various participating people.

The carving characteristics for "Bristles" are listed as follows:

1. Bristly looking hair, eye brow and facial hair.
2. A simple hat brim that spans the length of the coin or close.
3. The ear appears slightly raised due to metal force from graver.
4. Crude collar and shoulder created with a round tip graver.
5. Field and neck work performed with flat graver work.
6. No alterations to profile.
7. Dates and LIBERTY remain, though worked through.
8. The artistic quality is Average.
