Introducing Star Man

I won the first coin pictured below in an eBay auction in December 2011. Fast forward to June 2014 when I noticed a second matching example on eBay. I was lucky to be the winning bidder. Now I needed to find the third one. So I sent for some help, which I got from Don Wolfe. He won nickel number three on eBay in July 2013. We are nicknaming this carver "Star Man" because of the star punch he used for the beard and hair.

The carving characteristics for "Star Man" are as follows:

  1. Hair and beard made with “Star Shaped” punch.
  2. Hat with very high dome and wide down curved pointed brim.
  3. Carved double collar that ends at the front with angular lines that resemble a bowtie.
  4. No visible ear.
  5. Profile unaltered.
  6. Field decently dressed.
  7. LIBERTY and date remain.
