24 Oct 2007 ~ Art DelFavero, RM552 ~ Charlie Sarkiss' Mom remembers these being called “Sad Times Nickels” which is a reference to the “Great Depression” of the 1930's. We hope to learn more about carved nickels prior to the publishing of Del Romines' book. If you have any references or recollections for our research please give us a shout! delfaveros@twmi.rr.com

23 Oct 2007 ~ Art DelFavero, RM552 ~ 1) I'm looking for a better picture of the nickel shown from the O.H.N.S. auction catalogue #4 held Saturday, August 17, 1996 at the Denver ANA convention. It matches a nickel that I purchased on eBay in 2001 for the hammer price of $85, the picture was cloudy and the bids were low. 2) I'm also looking for someone with a match to these two nickels so this artist can be named. delfaveros@twmi.rr.com

It isn't Cecil B. Demille or Clarence Darrow, their middle names don't match. I thought of Clyde Barrow (heart) Bonnie Parker but to me the last letter is clearly a D not a P. delfaveros@twmi.rr.com
